Is VET right for me?

Learn by doing. Explore your interests. Build Real Skills.

VET could be a great option if you enjoy practical learning, developing new skills and discovering how what you learn connects to real industries and careers.

You don't need to know exactly what you want to do after school. VET can help you explore an area of interest and discover what you enjoy – and sometimes what you don't.

VET might be a great option for you if you answer YES to some or all, of the questions below…

✅ Your Interests

  • I enjoy learning through hands-on, practical activities

  • I’m interested in a specific industry or career area (e.g., trades, health, business, hospitality, IT, early childhood, creative industries)

  • I want to explore real jobs and workplaces, not just classroom learning

✅ Your Learning Style

  • I learn best by doing, not just reading or writing

  • I like working on real-world tasks and projects

  • I enjoy learning in adult or industry-style environments

✅ Your Future Plans

  • I’m considering an apprenticeship or traineeship

  • I want to keep my options open for TAFE, further training, or university

  • I’d like to gain a nationally recognised qualification while still at school

  • I want skills that can help me get a part-time or casual job

✅ Your Readiness

  • I’m willing to travel to another school, TAFE, or training provider if required

  • I can manage my time and balance VET with my other subjects

  • I’m prepared to follow workplace expectations, including attendance, safety, and behaviour

  • I’m open to completing Structured Workplace Learning as a part of my course

If You Answered YES… VET could be a great fit for you!
        VET can help you:

  • Build confidence and practical skills

  • Explore careers linked to priority industries in the Sunbury Macedon Ranges region

  • Gain qualifications that lead to real pathways after school

VET isn't just for one type of student

Students choose VET for many different reasons.

Some already know the industry they want to enter. Others use VET to explore their interests.

Some continue to an apprenticeship or traineeship, while others progress to TAFE, university or employment.

Still not sure?

Talk with your VET Coordinator, careers practitioner and your family about your interests, strengths and future goals.
