Get Involved With VET

Share Your Experience. Inspire a Young Person.

Supporting young people doesn't always mean hosting a student in your workplace.

Local businesses, employers, industry professionals and community organisations can play an important role in helping students learn about different industries, understand employer expectations and explore future career opportunities.

There are many ways you can get involved:

Work Experience / Structured Work Placement / School-Based Apprenticeships & Traineeships

Hosting students for a work placement or work experience has many benefits for both students and employers. Learn more about hosting a student.

Industry Guest Speakers
Share your career journey, industry knowledge and experience with students. Hearing directly from people working in industry can help students better understand where their VET studies could take them.

Mock Interviews (Training Interviews)
Help students develop confidence and prepare for employment by participating in practice interviews and providing constructive feedback on their communication and interview skills.

Careers Events & Expos
Participate in school careers events, expos and information sessions to showcase your industry, organisation and the career opportunities available to young people.

Industry Demonstrations & Workshops
Give students an insight into your industry through practical demonstrations, workshops or interactive activities.

Workplace & Industry Visits
Open your workplace to students for a tour or industry visit, helping them see firsthand how different roles, skills and workplaces operate.

Share Your Industry Knowledge

Industry input can also help schools and the SMRVC better understand emerging skills, workforce needs and employment opportunities across our region.

Your Experience Can Make a Difference

Sometimes a conversation with an employer or industry professional is all it takes to spark a student's interest in a career they had never considered.

By sharing your time, knowledge and experience, you can help young people make informed decisions about their future while strengthening connections between education, industry and our local community.

Interested in getting involved? We'd love to hear from you.
